It is an ideal facility for groups of friends and families to bunk together in group cabins, on our group site or on four campsites. The location is great for outdoor exploration and for day trips to nearby historic sites in Saugus and Boston.
drivingDirection From Route 1 in Saugus, take Route 129 West, Walnut Street toward city of Wakefield. The entrance to the Camp will be on your left 2/10ths of a mile after the first traffic light. Look for a small green sign. Continue on the gravel road and park in the first parking lot or as instructed by DCR staff. Please drive slowly. facilitiesDescription The cabins have bunk beds and tables with benches and accommodate 10-12 campers. Linens and eating utensils are not provided. Cabins have a refrigerator and are heated by pellet stove. No additional tents are permitted on cabin sites. No showers or flush toilets available, portable toilets only. Pets are prohibited from Camp Nihan. vThe use of this facility is for campers only, however visitors may be allowed with prior permission and at the discretion of the park supervisor. All visitors must pay $8 per vehicle fee. Parking is very limited and may not be available. Please call the park to inquire: 781-231-1203.

importantInformation Specific to this facility: Camp Nihan is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday only September through March 18, 2017. Camp Nihan is open Friday, Saturday only in July and August. Each group cabin or group tentsite must have an adult and/or counselor in attendance. Swimming, biking and mountain biking are not permitted at Camp Nihan. Potable water is available at the side of Sprague Lodge, and seasonally at the side of the Clarke Cabin. It is recommended that visitors bring one gallon of fresh water per person per day. No open flame cooking inside cabins or on the decks of cabins. Cabins offer access to electricity. Wattage is limited and service is not sufficiently reliable for use with medical devices. Please read the important information below, prior to making a reservation. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in all Massachusetts state parks and campgrounds. Massachusetts prohibits the transportation of firewood into or out of any DCR campground. Firewood must be purchased at the campground. Transportation of firewood or other wood products, may result in eviction. Check-in time is 1:00 to 9:00 pm; check out by 11:00 am. Quiet hours are 10:00 pm to 7:00 am. The use of generators is not permitted during quiet hours except for the purpose of operating a medical device. Reservation and Occupancy: Campers and/or camping equipment are limited to 14 cumulative days occupancy in any one park between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Violators of the 14-day limit may have their reservation cancelled and be asked to leave the park. Reservations must be in the name of the primary occupant, who is at least 18 years of age. A photo ID is required at check- in and must match the name on the reservation. Campsite occupancy is limited to four adults, or two adults and the children in their care. Campsites are limited to two tents, or one tent and one trailer or RV, and two vehicles maximum (including tow trailers) per site. Reservations with departure dates outside the 6-month maximum window cannot be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made. Cancellations and changes will incur a $10 fee. Day of arrival cancellations require a phone call to the campground and will result in the loss of the first nights camping fee, plus the $10 cancellation fee. Reserved campsites will be held until 8:00 am on the day after your scheduled arrival date. If we are not contacted, your reservation will be no-showed resulting in no refund. Camping with Pets: Pets are not permitted at any time.

orientationDescription The facility encompasses sixty five acres of woodland forest, marsh, and a spring fed pond. The Saugus River flows through the camp property providing ideal habitats for animals such as heron and mallards. A variety of mammals reside in and around the area, including fox, deer and river otter.
recreationDescription Campers can hike to nearby Breakheart Reservation for swimming, hiking, and Visitor Center services. Some other recreation opportunities include horseshoes, basketball (half-court), board games and books, available in the cabins. Please, no biking or mountain biking at this facility. Swimming is not permitted at Camp Nihan.
